The Story
Jackie and Mark flew in from Vancouver with a clear vision: an intimate, candlelit ceremony at one of Puerto Vallarta's most dramatic addresses. Grand Miramar delivered everything they'd imagined and more — sweeping views of Banderas Bay, warm stone terraces glowing in the afternoon light, and a ceremony space that felt both grand and personal.
Jackie's morning began quietly. Her mother helped fasten her veil in the bridal suite while late-morning light filtered through the glass doors. There were no elaborate preparations, no teams of people — just the two of them, present in the moment. That intimacy carried through the whole day.
The ceremony was held on the main terrace as the sun dropped toward the horizon. The light at Grand Miramar in November does something special around 5pm — it turns everything gold and soft, wrapping the stones and the water in the same warm glow. Mark waited at the altar, visibly moved. When Jackie appeared at the top of the path, the expression on his face was one of the most unguarded things I've photographed in fifteen years.
Their vows were personal and unhurried. Mark wrote his himself — you could tell by the way he paused. Jackie smiled through the whole thing, even when she was crying.
After the ceremony, we had forty minutes for portraits before the reception began. Grand Miramar offers portrait opportunities most venues can't — the infinity edge of the main pool, the private gardens below the main terrace, the stone archways that frame the bay perfectly. We moved quickly and quietly. By the time their guests were seated for dinner, we had everything.
The reception was intimate — twenty-six guests, long table, candles everywhere. The first dance happened as the last light left the sky. Jackie had chosen a song that meant something specific to both of them; I won't say what it was, but Mark couldn't get through the first minute without laughing because she'd picked it. That moment is one of my favorite images from the whole year.
Grand Miramar consistently produces some of the most beautiful wedding photography in Puerto Vallarta. The architecture, the elevation, the light — it's one of a handful of venues where I'd photograph any wedding, regardless of aesthetic.
